The owner of Grinder Photography in Milford Connecticut, Kevin focuses on portraiture, along with fine art photography. He has been running Grinder Photography since 1982 , doing everything from weddings, model go-see’s and portraits, to custom printing. He taught photography classes while in Cedar Rapids and has started teaching again. While in Cedar Rapids he was introduce to large format photography, sadly he no longer has his 4x5 or 11x14 view cameras. He still owns and uses his Canon Ftb, as well as several other cameras, a champion of film photography, he believes “there is a look you get with film you can never get with digital.”
His two most favorite sources of inspiration are painter Edward Hopper and Photographer Edward Weston. His style is in the pictorialist vain which is why his favorite quote by Edward Weston is “Anything that excites me for any reason, I will photograph; not searching for unusual subject matter, but making the commonplace unusual.”
A member of the Connecticut Professional Photographers Association he has been on the board since 2014 and is currently VP of Membership.
A native Iowan he has lived in Seattle Washington, where he met and married Gaetana his wife of thirty plus years, New York City, and San Jose California. For the last nineteen years he and Gaetana, along with their rescue dog Blanca, have called Milford their home. They have two children, Zoë who is a graduate of MassArt in Boston and Patrick who is studying at Iowa State University.
When he is not writing about himself in the third person, Kevin likes to brew beer, make sawdust in his wood shop and travel. He can often be found on his back porch with a pipe, a fine glass of bourbon or single malt, listening to music or enjoying a conversation with friends.
